Disgusting clip shows seagull picking at dead rat as streets ‘overrun’ by vermin

A disgusting video has emerged of a seagull picking at the carcass of a rat on a street that residents claim is 'overrun' with vermin.

Residents in Wavertree, Liverpool have grown increasingly frustrated at the number of rats that have been spotted running on streets, and even into houses, leaving families worried to let their children play outside.

Some have even taken to social media claiming the rodents have become more 'like residents' in the area, Liverpool Echo reports.

But one Facebook user has since shared a shocking video, in a group for the local area, of a seagull picking at a dead rat on Thornycroft Road at around 7pm on Tuesday evening (July 26).

The seagull can be seen picking up the rat's body and dragging it on the street. Sharing the video with local media, the resident said he has lived in the area for around 10 years, but has never seen the situation "so bad".

He added: "This is a massive problem in this area, we need more done. Our children play out on these disgusting streets. I have lived here 10 years and never known it to be so bad. The rats, the seagulls, at one time didn’t even used to be seagulls like now.

"More needs doing, this can’t go on. We can’t keep reporting this, it's is a big problem and something drastic needs to happen as soon as possible."

One user described the situation as "disgusting" as others urged residents to continue reporting the action.

The news comes after a woman who lives in a popular seaside resort says she’s scared to leave her own home because of an infestation of “attention-seeking” rats around the town.

Kristine Blagojevic, who moved to Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, from London nearly two years ago says she's seen more rats around the place than she ever did in the capital – and now she’s afraid to venture into her own back garden.

And Kristine says the problem has got so bad that she has got to take her poo bags home with her when she’s walking her dog because she doesn’t dare put her hand too near a bin.
