A top New York City cancer doctor who fatally shot her four-month-old daughter and herself used her husband’s gun after battling severe postpartum psychosis, reports say.
Dr Krystal Cascetta, 40, killed her baby at around 7am Saturday, before turning the gun on herself in her Westchester home.
A new report has claimed the gun was registered to the doctor’s husband, Timothy Talty, 37, who was away at the time of the incident, according to CBS News.
Sources said investigators believe mental health conditions – including postpartum depression, or more severe postpartum psychosis – were a factor in her actions.

Postpartum mental health conditions impact an estimated 20 percent of new moms.
The diagnosis ‘really does not discriminate based on education, or age, or how badly a woman wants a baby or wants to be a mom,’ Dr. Catherine Daniels of Westchester Medical Center told CBS.
Daniels said it’s critical to show love and support to new moms and take notice to any odd behavior.
‘With an eye towards women seeming very anxious and concerned about the welfare of the baby, women doubting their own ability to adequately care for the baby, and a real sort of sadness and disinterest and withdrawal,’ Daniels told CBS.
The FDA approved the first drug that is meant to specifically treat postpartum depression – zuranolone, just this week.

Dr. Cascetta was a Hematology-Oncology specialist with Mount Sinai in New York City.

Cascetta’s husband was away at the time and not involved in the shooting — but her parents were inside the house during the fatal shootings.
Despite the fact he was not there, rumors circulated online that Talty was somehow involved – which have now been quashed by officials.
NY State Trooper Steven Nevel told Today.com: ‘The trolls on social media are dragging the husband through the mud.
‘But I can tell you 100% unequivocally, without a doubt, that he did not do this.
‘It’s really easy for people to come up with conspiracy theories.
‘He’s been nothing but cooperative. The family has been beyond cooperative,’ he said.

Cascetta lived in the Granite Springs area of Somers in New York State at the $1 million home with Talty.
On his Instagram page, he had shared images of the two in Austin, Texas, when he said Cascetta had came to visit him when they first started dating.
The two had married in 2019 during a celebration in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, after what Talty described on social media as ‘so special’.
At the time, he said: ‘My Wife! It took us a year to plan and a lifetime to gather all of the wonderful people to make our wedding so special!’
Talty runs his own energy bar company, called the Talty Bar, and shared online how his wife had used her medical and scientific knowledge to help advise on how to create the best product.
Cascetta was a board certified Hematologist and Medical Oncologist in New York City, specializing in breast cancer.
She had received her medical degree from Albany Medical College, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for demonstrating excellence in humanistic clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service.
In a bio about Cascetta, she was described as an avid runner and fitness enthusiast.
The bio also says that being a doctor ‘was in her DNA’ and was routinely found as a child wrapping her dolls in gauze.
