Donald Trump news: Did Joe Biden really remove a ‘Diet Coke button’ from the Oval Office?

Melania Trump was ‘tone deaf’ says Stephanie Winston Wolkoff

President Biden now sits in the Oval Office, the centre of the American government, and will do for the next four years. His move ushered in a more progressive government, and he signed a series of large-scale executive orders to reflect that on his first day in office. On the smaller scale, however, he also made a series of changes to the office’s decor.

Did Joe Biden really remove a Diet Coke button from the Oval Office?

Ex-President Trump was famous for his love of fast food, but, until recently, many people weren’t sure how deep that love went.

Several media outlets revealed Mr Biden had opted to remove a Diet Coke button from the Oval Office on his first day.

The button, which was first reported in 2018, is allegedly now absent from the Resolute Desk, where Presidents sign legislation and make presidential addresses.

Tom Newton Dunn, chief political commentator for Times Radio, was amongst the first people to notice.

He wrote on Twitter about the function of the unusual button the day after Mr Biden’s inauguration.

Mr Dunn said: “President Biden has removed the Diet Coke button. When @ShippersUnbound and I interviewed Donald Trump in 2019, we became fascinated by what the little red button did.

“Eventually Trump pressed it, and a butler swiftly brought in a Diet Coke on a silver platter. It’s gone now.”

The Associated Press first reported the button, which was housed in a wooden platform on the President’s desk, in 2018.

As well as providing the President with his favourite drink the button was also allegedly a source of entertainment.

Chris Sims, a former White House aide, wrote about Mr Trump’s playful attitude to the button in 2019.

In his book Team of Vipers, he said the former President used it to pull pranks on his guests.

He wrote: “Out of nowhere, he’d suddenly press the button.

“Not sure what to do, guests would look at one another with raised eyebrows.

“Moments later, a steward would enter the room carrying a glass filled with Diet Coke on a silver platter, and Trump would burst out laughing.”

The button Mr Trump hoped to emulate was the fabled “red button” long assumed responsible for launching America’s nuclear arsenal.

Diet Coke was just one aspect of Mr Trump’s indulgent lifestyle.

He prefers to avoid breakfast, but when he does eat, it is a McDonald’s McMuffin without tea or coffee.

In the evening, he would feast on more McDonald’s, KFC or Burger King.

His ideal McDonald’s order, according to former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, is “a full McDonald’s dinner of two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and a small chocolate shake – a total of 2,430 calories.”
