The former US President made a surprise appearance at a Big Dog Ranch Rescue event in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Tim Allan Walker, local WPTV reporter, shared a video of the former President walking out to massive applause from those in attendance.
He told the crowd: “I didn’t exactly prepare for this, but I was walking by, and I heard everyone screaming.”
Giving a nod to Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law and event co-organiser, Mr Trump then said he heard she would be running for Senate.
He added: “I want to thank Lara, who’s been so incredible, I don’t know, you’re running for the Senate.
“I hear she’s going to run for the Senate!”
Ms Trump has not commented publicly on whether she would follow her father-in-law into politics.
In other remarks at the event, Mr Trump praised Big Dog Ranch Rescue as “so great and so important”.
He then added: “I’m with you 100 percent.
“We had many meetings in the White House and the Oval Office having to do with saving and helping dogs.”
Last month, former President Trump spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida.
It was his first speech since leaving the White House.
Mr Trump appeared to envisage the possibility of running for president again, claiming he would “beat” the Democrats for a “third time” while repeating false claims that he won the 2020 election.
He also told the CPAC audience wife Melania would be the “future first lady”.

This week, the 45th US president was mocked for using a “run-of-the-mill” private jet.
Doug Gollan, private jet expert, wrote for Forbes Magazine: “Donald Trump was recently spotted boarding a mere run-of-the-mill everyman type private jet.
“The former commander-in-chief’s ride would still be out of reach for most of us, yet, it’s the type of aircraft where you need to bend your neck if you stand-up.
“You might even feel your hair brushing up against the cabin ceiling.”
