Whitehall has been placed on lockdown after a car reportedly crashed into barriers outside No.10 Downing Street at around 4.20pm today.
Images from the scene appear to show police officers surrounding a vehicle that had managed to pass the first set of barriers guarding the Prime Minister's residence.
The silver-coloured car, which had its boot open can be seen parked against the steel security railings. A statement from the Metropolitan Police said that armed officers arrested a man at the scene, on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving.
Cordons have been put in place along Whitehall, and the BBC reports that staff and MPs at Downing Street have been advised to stay indoors There are currently no reports of any injuries.
