MET Office: Sunny spells and mostly fine for Easter Weekend
Easter Sunday will bring temperatures of up to 18C as the UK basks in sunshine this bank holiday weekend before “stormy” weather. The Met Office said the weather is set to be “relatively nice” with “some sunshine” before rain on Monday. But a Met Office meteorologist has warned the UK could see “stormy” weather in the coming week, with temperatures not set to last and dropping from Monday.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Alex Burkill said: “Temperatures are likely to peak around 17 or 18 Celsius on Sunday, however this will not be the start of a warmer spell. A front will push eastwards overnight into Monday bringing wetter and slightly cooler weather. The rest of next week then looks more unsettled, and potentially stormy.”
Dan Stroud added: “Temperatures over the Easter Weekend are likely to reach into the mid teens, making it feel very pleasant in the sunshine. It is possible that temperatures could reach 17C in one or two spots during the course of Saturday and Sunday, mostly likely across parts of NW Wales and N Somerset.
“However it will turn cloudier and less settled from Monday as rain pushes in from the west, this will mean temperatures returning to near normal values for Early April and remaining so for the following few days. We are however keeping an eye on a deep area of low pressure which is expected to bring a spell of wet and windy weather across many areas from Tuesday.”
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said Sunday could be the hottest day of 2023 so far.
“It’s probably going to be Sunday if we see the warmest day of the year so far, so currently the highest temperature recorded in 2023 is 17.8C and that was on March 30 in Suffolk, so we’ll probably see temperatures peaking at around 18C or so on Easter Sunday,” he said.
“It will turn much more unsettled for Bank Holiday Monday, unfortunately, as is quite typical in the UK – a bit of a British love affair, isn’t it, with rain on Bank Holiday Mondays.
“And this Monday will see rain for most places but in the form of showers primarily, so there will still be a few sunny intervals on Monday, it won’t be a washout for most places.”
Looking ahead to next week, the Met Office warned that a period of unsettled weather is on the cards. The weather service predicted: “Breezy with a risk of coastal gales in the north.
“A period of unsettled weather with rain and strong winds, especially in the northwest, is likely through the middle of next week.
“Beyond this, the driest and most settled conditions are likely to be in the south and east.
“The north and west is expected to be more unsettled with a greater chance of periods of rain and strong winds.”
