Girl, 12, tells cops she’s a ‘good child’ after ‘stabbing her brother to death’

A schoolgirl protested she was a "good child" and asked whether handcuffs were necessary as she was arrested for allegedly stabbing her nine-year-old brother to death.

Police bodycam footage shows the moment the 12-year-old, who has not been named, was taken from her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by police on January 5 while sobbing and repeatedly apologising after she reportedly knifed her younger sibling Zander.

The edited clip, obtained by The Law & Crime Network, starts with the girl running downstairs yelling: "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

As the young girl is escorted out of the property by police, her mother, April Lyda, can be seen in the doorway.

"You better pray to God he f***ing lives," she told the girl, to which her daughter replied: "I'm so sorry, momma, I don't know what happened."

The girl can then be seen leading police to the knife she allegedly used to stab her brother, which had been thrown out of a window, before being taken to a patrol car.

Once in the vehicle, the girl asked if she was going to jail, to which an officer replied that it's too soon to tell.

"I ruined my life," she said. "I ruined my whole future. It's all my fault."

While still in the car, she can be heard asking: "Are the handcuffs necessary? I’m a good child," before an officer tells her they are.

Lyda told police she was asleep when her daughter woke her up before midnight to tell her she had stabbed Zander.

The boy was rushed to hospital and taken into surgery following the incident, but died of his injuries shortly after 2.30am local time.

In a police interview, also captured on film, Lyda said her daughter hadn't exhibited aggressive behaviour before.

"I just don’t understand why she would have so much anger toward him, especially at bedtime," she can be heard saying.

The girl is currently being held in juvenile custody with the Tulsa Police Child Crisis Unit leading the investigation.

A representative for the Tulsa Police Department told the Daily Mail on Wednesday (May 31) they were not commenting on the case as it involves a juvenile and is under seal.

Meanwhile Lyda's friends have started a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of the "unexpected tragedy".

The page reads: "The loss of her 9-year-old son to her 12-year-old daughter has left this mother and their family completely devastated and confused, we are still trying to figure out why this happened.

"Her daughter was a well-behaved child with no prior history of behavioral problems. Her son Zander was the sweetest boy who had the biggest smile, he loved to ride his bike, play fortnite, hang out with his best friend or just run errands with his mom."

The page says the money will help single mum Lyda, who also has another three-year-old son, move to a new home and cover legal fees as well as cover bills and repair to a car.

Commenting on the GoFundMe, Lyda remarked on the footage of her daughter's arrest and said it was "not appropriate for them [the police] to post that".

She added her daughter had started showing behavioural problems after she was "put back on a medication she was off for over a year" but that "it wasn’t psych meds".

"I can’t get into details because I’m not sure what all I’m allowed to share just yet," Lyda wrote.

"She has never even yelled at me, she was happy and energetic loves school, she is not mentally ill & has not been diagnosed with anything.

"She has been very well behaved the entire 6 months she has been gone and yes I’m very supportive of her and love her very much, obviously there is a lot of healing that we both need before we can ever live together again."
