Harry and Meghan ‘trying to undo damage and deep hurt’ on royals with baby name

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be “trying to undo some of the damage” on the monarchy with the royal baby’s name, an expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor had been born on Friday, June 4.

Lilibet is the Queen’s favourite nickname, and the child’s middle name is a tribute to Harry’s mum Princess Diana.

Her Majesty, 95, had reportedlyalready given her blessingfor the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to use the name for their daughter before she was born.

Royal author Phil Dampier told The Sun: “Lilibet is such a personal name to the Queen you would hope they gave the palace the heads-up.

“I suspect Harry and Meghan have realised they’ve overdone their criticism in recent months and the penny has dropped that they’ve caused deep hurt to Harry’s gran and other family members.”

Mr Dampier — who wrote Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in their own words — added: “They might be trying to undo some of the damage.”

After the couple’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry made a series of other allegations about life in the monarchy.

At one point, he compared his childhood to“a mixture between The Truman Show and being in a zoo”.

Lili was born almost a month before Harry's mum Diana would have celebrated her 60th birthday on July 1.

On Sunday, June 6, the couple announced Lilibet’s arrival with the statement: “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili.

“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

A spokesman said mum and baby were “healthy and well”.

After the news was announced, Meghan’s estranged dad Thomas Markle sent his best wishes to the couple.
