Harry ‘squeezed’ Meghan Markle to make sure ‘she felt comfortable’ at funeral

Prince Harry gave Meghan Markle's hand a "firm squeeze" at the Queen's funeral to make sure that she felt comfortable.

Attorney Pranav Bhanot was at the ceremony in Westminster Abbey and saw some sweet moments between the couple who stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

And one tender moment stood out in particular, with 38-year-old Harry looking every bit the supportive husband to Meghan, 41.

"You saw the reassurance that Harry was giving to Meghan at times when they were walking together and had to go in their different directions," Bhanot told PEOPLE.

"I noticed just how supportive Harry was to Meghan," he continued. "When they went their separate directions after the ceremony, he gave her a firm squeeze of the hand. I felt he wanted to ensure she felt comfortable."

Later on, the couple sat next to Prince William, Kate Middleton and their two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, at the committal ceremony.

And it was Meghan's turn to be supportive, to little Princess Charlotte.

The Duchess of Sussex gave her niece a sweet grin when she gazed over her shoulder after exiting the building as the late monarch's remains headed for Windsor.

Charlotte attended the funeral alongside her older brother, Prince George, who is nine-years-old.

Noticing Meghan's attempt to comfort her niece, one Twitter user said: "It looked like Meghan tried to smile at Princess Charlotte."

Another user added "Pretty sure when they are walking out of the church, Meghan smiles at Princess Charlotte."

Princess Charlotte and Prince George travelled to Westminster Abbey in the same car as the Queen Consort Camilla and their mother Princess Catharine.

It is the first time the young royals have been seen in public since the country was struck with the sad news about the Queen's death at aged 96.

During the emotional service, seven-year-old Princess Charlotte honoured her great-grandmother by wearing a small pin in the shape of a horseshoe on her black coat.
