THE drug hydroxychloroquine can increase a Covid-19 patient's survival rate by up to 200 percent, according to a fresh study.

But it has since emerged that ventilated parents with a severe case of the virus and treated with high doses of hydroxychloroquine with zinc have a better chance of successfully battling it.
In March 2020, Trump said he was taking the drug to prevent Covid.
He was infected with the virus in October 2020.
Trump was lambasted by members of the scientific community for suggesting that hydroxychloroquine was a miracle but on Wednesday, his allies highlighted the Saint Barnabas Medical Center study.
It was carried out in New Jersey on 255 patients and published by the site medRxiv on May 31 as MAGA fans flocked to Twitter to highlight it.
Trump's spokesman, Jason Miller, wrote: "Oh" with the quote that the "study shows hydroxychloroquine and zinc treatments increased coronavirus survival rate by almost three times."
Donald Trump Jr also weighed in, noting: "In the last week alone, we've learned that the media, so-called fact-checkers and their Big Tech enforcers lied to us about the lab-leak theory, Hydroxychloroquine and the clearing of Lafayette Square.
"All to hurt Donald Trump. What else are they lying about?"
"How many people died bc Dr. Fauci said [to] trust the science and Hydroxychloroquine isn't effective?" raged QAnon Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene. "Trump was right."
"Here we go again! Episode 100 in 'the press was wrong, Trump was right!' I said this from the podium endlessly," wrote Trump's former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany wrote.
"But only now do they finally report the truth: 'Police did not clear Lafayette Park area so Trump could hold 'Bible' photo op: Watchdog.'"
Back in April 2020, Trump revealed the US bought a "tremendous amount of hydroxychloroquine, which I think is, you know, it's a great malaria drug."
"It's worked unbelievably, it's a powerful drug on malaria," he said. "And there are signs that it works on [coronavirus], some very strong signs.
"And in the meantime, it's been around a long time, and also works very powerfully on lupus. So there are some very strong, powerful signs, and we'll have to see.
"Because again, it's being tested now, this is a new thing that just happened to us, the invisible enemy, we call it.
"It's a very strong, powerful medicine – but it doesn't kill people. We have some very good results and some very good tests. You've seen the same test that I have.
"In France, they had a very good test. But we don't have time to go and say, gee, let's take a couple of years and test it out. And let's go and test with the test tubes and the laboratories. We don't have time. I'd love to do that."
On May 28, 2020, he revealed: "I happen to be taking it" at a White House round table.
"A lot of good things have come out. You'd be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the front-line workers," he went on "Before you catch it. The front-line workers, many, many are taking it.'
"I'm taking it, hydroxychloroquine. Right now, yeah. [A] couple of weeks ago, I started taking it. Cause I think it's good, I've heard a lot of good stories."
Dr Anthony Fauci had an interest in the drug but said more data was needed to prove it was effective.
A study from the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents showed 84 percent fewer hospitalizations when hydroxychloroquine was used as a treatment.
A Hackensack Meridian Health study also yielded some positive results.
Trump also made headlines this week after he today called for Hilary Clinton and the Democratic Party to be "held accountable" for claiming his campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election.
He released a scathing statement on Thursday, blaming Clinton and other Dems for pushing investigators to probe the "fake allegation" and asked for them to be punished ahead of Joe Biden's meeting with Vladimir Putin.
Biden's predecessor also blasted the current administration's response to the border crisis.
Trump decried the situation as "worse than ever before" as it was revealed more than 180,000 had been stopped at the frontier in May.
WHAT IS HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE
Hydroxychloroquine is a disease-modifying drug used to treat malaria.
It can also be used as treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and porphyria cutanea tarda.
It can only be used to treat malaria in areas where where malaria remains sensitive to chloroquine.
It's mostly sold under the name Plaquenil in the United States, but can be found under other brand names too.
The drug works by modifying the underlying disease process, and regulating the immune system – rather than treating the symptoms.
