I thought my crocodile attack twin was dead when her body floated to surface after hearing her screams, sister reveals

A BRIT who bravely fought off a croc three times in a Mexican river to save her twin sister recounted the moment she thought she was dead.

Georgia Laurie, 28, said she feared for the worst when friend spotted her sister Melissa floating face-down in the water.

Speaking on This Morning, Georgia recounted the horror at seeing the 7ft beast grab her sister by the leg and drag her into a death roll.

She described rushing towards a nearby bank when someone raised the alarm about a croc being in the water.

Noticing she sister was missing, she and friends began "screaming her name" but there was "no sound, nothing" coming back.

"At the time, I'm really worried because the last thing I see is her being taken under water and then she's not responding, so, I'm at this point thinking she's dead," she said.

"I then swim to where I can hear my friends and then they say there's her body and I just see her body floating face down."

Georgia, a qualified diver, rushed into the water to save her sister when the croc struck, which she fended of by "bashing" its nose.

"But my sister at the time wasn't responding at all. She was blue and so I tried to revive her and she started flailing her arms, having a fit, I think she thought she was still being attacked," she added.

"It comes back for a second time, so I'm bashing it on the nose, trying to keep her head up at the same time, so she doesn't drown and it goes away eventually."

The creature returned for a third time while Georgia was helping her sister onto a boat, and again punched its nose to scare it off.

The sisters were among a group of 25 tourists who last Sunday were taken by an unlicensed guide — named locally as a German backpacker called Richie — to an area of the Manialtepec lagoon which is known for nesting crocs.

The sisters were swimming together when Georgia suddenly realised Melissa was in trouble.

But despite their ordeal – which left Melissa in a coma – Georgia says they're determined to finish their trip.

She told The Sun: “Melissa’s got a fractured wrist which is going to take longer to heal than her other injuries.

"She might as well recover here rather than be bored at home.

“We’re definitely not going to end our world tour. We want to continue. I can recover well here and so can she.”

The twins, from Sandhurst, Berks, were taken to a hospital in Puerto Escondido.

Georgia was treated for bite marks and gashes to her right hand and wrist, and scratches on her legs.

Melissa was found to have a fractured wrist and lacerations on her stomach, but doctors were most concerned that she had developed sepsis, or blood poisoning, in her wounds.

So far the girls’ medical bill has reached £11,000, but a GoFundMe page has raised more than £43,800 for the family.
