Juvenile allegedly shoots Alamosa police officer and a man

A juvenile suspect is now in custody after the Thursday afternoon shooting of an Alamosa Police Department officer and an adult man.

The former was shot twice after officers arrived at the scene of a reported disturbance at 4:10 p.m. in the 1200 block of Denver Avenue in Alamosa, with a juvenile producing a handgun “almost immediately,” according to a department press release.

Police also found an adult man shot nearby. Both were taken to San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, and were undergoing surgery as of Thursday.

The juvenile suspect is in custody, with an active investigation ongoing. A news conference is scheduled at 11 a.m. to provide updates.
