Kate Middleton appears to lead a 'secret double life' that has been revealed over her milestone birthday, according to a royal commentator.
The Duchess of Cambridge celebrated her 40th birthday yesterday with various friends, experts and insiders highlighting details of her life.
Kate has blossomed into a senior member of the Royal Family after marrying Prince William but one expert believes the details on her birthday have painted a different picture of the Duchess other than the one we currently see.
Speaking in her News.com.au column, Daniela Elser questions whether the “perpetual exercise in regal perfectionism has removed the woman Kate really is.”
She wrote: “The level of unprecedented detail about her private life that has come out over the last 24 hours or so is extraordinary and the person who emerges is a serious departure from the Kate we normally see.
“And this private Kate? Well she indulges in champers after a day of royal graft, has a cheeky sense of humour and actually goes out of her way to not look fashionable.”

Elser highlights a recent story in the Telegraph where British Vogue contributing editor Vassi Chamberlain recalls seeing Kate in a bikini on holiday as her husband was told to put his phone away by security.
She said: “Not long ago, I was on holiday in Europe when a tall, slim figure in a bikini brushed past me …
"It was only when the figure bent down to speak to her husband and son, paddle-boarding and playing around in the water, that I realised with a shock that I was seeing the Duchess of Cambridge in an entirely private, off-guard moment.”

Chamberlain recalled in the same article that Kate offered to pick up her parents at a dinner party, according to a conversation she had with the royal's father Michael Middleton, despite the Duchess having a driver who could have picked them up.
She also revealed Kate’s willingness to help out as Chamberlain spoke of the time she went in the kitchen to scrub an oven dish after a housekeeper was unwell.

Kate celebrated her birthday by releasing three photographs taken by renowned fashion photographer Paolo Roversi.
He said: "Taking the portrait of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge was a true honour for me and a moment of pure joy.
"I was moved by her warmth and friendly welcome and enchanted by her shining eyes that reflected the loveliness of her soul and her smile showing the generosity of her heart.”
