Killer said he ‘left world in better place’ during final words before execution

In his final words before being executed, death row triple killer Quintin Jones said he hoped he left people "happy memories, happiness and no sadness."

Quintin Phillippe Jones was convicted of beating his elderly great-aunt, Berthena Bryant, 83, to death with a baseball bat in September 1999.

Later that same month, investigators also found evidence to connect Jones and his friend Ricky Carl “Red” Roosa, then 40, to the June 1999 deaths of Clark Peoples, 27, and Marc Sanders, 19.

The 41-year-old was placed on death row with his execution scheduled for Wednesday, May 19.

Hours before the US Supreme Court also denied his appeal for an emergency stay of execution order.

Members of the victim's family made pleas to spare his life and Jones spoke to the Texas governor on video, urging him to grant clemency days before his death.

During his last moments, his thoughts were on his friends and family. He thanked them and described them as being "like the sky".

He also likened life to a "big full plate of food for the soul" before telling the warden that he was done.

Quintin Jones' final words were: "I would like to thank all the supporting people who helped me over the years.

"To mad Maddie, my twin Sonja, Angie and all the homies. AKA monkey and Peruvian queen including crazy Dominican.

"I was so glad to leave this world a better, more positive place. It's not an easy life with all the negativity.

"Love all my friends and all the friendship's that I have made. They are like the sky.

"It's all part of life, like a big full plate of food for the soul.

"I hope I left everyone a plate of food full of happy memories, happiness and no sadness.

"I'm done warden."

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) confirmed that Quintin Jones was pronounced dead at exactly 6.40pm (local time) on Wednesday, May 19.

He became the 571st inmate to receive the lethal injection in the state since 1982 when capital punishment was brought back in.

The execution was not without controversy after it was revealed that media representatives were prevented from witnessing the death.

According to new reports the TDCJ Director of Communications Jeremy Desel admitted there had been a grave error.

“TDCJ can only apologise for this error and know nothing like this will ever happen again.”
