King Charles ‘doesn’t want more popular Prince William stealing his limelight’

King Charles "doesn't want" the "more popular" Prince William to steal the limelight from him, according to a royal expert.

US President Joe Biden was in the UK earlier this week and met with Charles for the first time since the coronation. Naturally, he also met with PM Rishi Sunak beforehand.

But one person Biden didn't get around to meeting was William.

After tea and pleasantries, Biden and Charles met with the Climate Finance Mobilisation Forum. UK Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Grant Shapps was in the room too.

Given his work on the climate crisis, royal expert Daniela Elser said William's omission from the meeting was "glaring".

William launched the £50million Earthshot Prize in 2020, aimed at promoting and supporting the most important climate initiatives from across the globe. He even met with Biden when the awards ceremony was held in the US last year – and yet he wasn't invited to the meeting this week.

Writing for news.com.au, Elser said: "I find it impossible to believe that William would have merrily turned down an opportunity to take part in this sort of high-level climate change chit-chatting and large cheque-pledging to spend an afternoon discussing locally sourced produce with cafe staff."

It led her to believe that Charles maybe didn't want his son at the meeting.

"For more than 50 years, Charles was like a sort of royal geisha, always following a few steps behind his mother and then later his wife, metaphorically speaking," she said, adding that Charles never got "top billing".

Elser continued: "So maybe now that Charles has a crown, a throne and the security code for the Houses of Parliament side door, he doesn’t want his more popular son stealing any of his limelight."
