Up to snow good: Man, 54, handed road ban after being caught driving his van… with a frozen windscreen
- David Hyslop, 54, was stopped by officers on the A701 at Dumfries, Scotland
A van driver man has been banned from the roads for a year after he was caught behind the wheel with a frozen windscreen and windows.
David Hyslop, 54, was stopped by officers on the A701 at Dumfries, Scotland, in December 2022.
He was charged with road traffic offences and was convicted of dangerous driving last week following a trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court.
Hyslop was given a 12-month driving ban and a £500 fine.
Police Scotland released images of his frosty blue van following his conviction. They show the windows covered in frost, while the windscreen has a narrow clear gap at the bottom.

Police Scotland Dumfries and Galloway published the photo of his windscreen onto its Facebook page with one user describing it as ‘complete madness’
Another said: ‘It’s a but silly on his behalf with a hefty forfeit, for an extra 2 mins of his time clearing his windscreen.’
While a second said he should have got out of bed earlier to clean the frost off.
The force is now urging people to ensure their cars are properly defrosted before taking to the roads.
Inspector Gavin McHallum said: ‘As we move into the winter months and a drop in temperatures, I hope this case acts as a reminder of the importance of ensuring your vehicle is in a safe condition to be driven on our roads.
‘It is absolutely vital that there is no snow or ice on your windows before you set off so please take the time to properly clear your vehicle
‘If you cannot see clearly you are putting yourself and others on the road at risk.’
