A massive explosion in Russia by targeted a plant involved in the development of a elite Russian bomber planes, it has emerged.
Moscow confirmed the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant in Sergiyev Posad (Moscow Oblast) had been struck – scenes played out on social media as a huge mushroom cloud blanketed the city.
Russia, which blamed the attack on Ukraine, reported at least 56 people injured with six in intensive care due to the strike.
The plant was described by Russian media, citing the state procurement registry, as being part of the development of a generation of elite Russian bomber planes.
According to a Kremlin message, as revealed by The New Voice of Ukraine, the plant “continues to supply optics to Russian forces but since 2019 has been involved in the development of a… Poslannik”.

A Poslannik is thought to be a strategic bomber/cruiser missile carrier.
It appears the factory had ceased to be operational in some aspects after the war began, but had worked in the “execution of a component part of research and development work on the subject of code: Poslannik -1OEP/L”.
The contract was due for an extension in 2027 and was billed to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Russian media claims the aircraft is formatted using the “flying wing” profile and is reminiscent of the US-built B-2 Spirit craft – which boasts among its armory stealth technologies.

It means the aircraft, once completed, would be capable of carrying strategic cruiser missiles, high-precision aerial bombs and electronic warfare tools.
The latest bombing comes as Ukraine’s military attempted to cross the Dnipro River – a space that has served as the frontline in the south of the European nation.
Reports from Russian military bloggers claim around seven boats – each one carrying Ukrainian soldiers – landed close to the village of Kozachi Laheri, east of Kherson city.
As a result of the move, Ukrainian soldiers had made up around 800 meters.
However, in the hours since Russia had managed to fight back.
The “limited raid” was described as being “more successful” than Russia had acknowledged.
In its latest update, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) thinktank in Washington wrote on its website: “The majority of prominent Russian [military bloggers] claimed that Ukrainian forces managed to utilise tactical surprise and land on the east bank before engaging Russian forces in small arms exchanges, and Saldo was likely purposefully trying to refute claims of Ukrainian presence in this area to avoid creating panic in the already delicate Russian information space.”
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has said attacks on Russian territory are an “inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process” of the conflict.
