Beyhan Mutlu, 50, had not returned home after an evening of drinking with his friends in Turkey. His relatives, who live in Inegol in the northwestern Bursa province, were concerned when he did not return home.
Mr Mutlu’s wife had attempted to contact the man when he failed to show up. She then reported him missing.
Officials believe he wandered off into the forest while drunk and his friends were unable to find him.
Whilst the search party looked for Mr Mutlu, he stumbled across them in the woods but had no idea that he was the man they were looking for.
He had been part of the group for hours before those around him realised.
But the penny dropped for the missing man as he began to hear calls of his name mid-trek through the forest.
He asked: “Who are we looking for?” before adding: “I am here.”
According to NTV, Mr Mutlu was told to give a statement to the police after those in the search party had realised that he was with them the whole time.
Police took him home to his family.

According to reports from MailOnline, the man had pleaded with the police saying: “Don’t punish me too harshly, my father will kill me.”
‘Missing’ people joining their own search parties has happened before.
An Asian tourist was reported missing in 2012 in Iceland and eventually found within the search party for them.
The tourist had joined the search party at the Eldgja canyon in the southern volcanic region but those around her were unable to identify her as she was wearing different clothes.
The chief of police in Hvolsvollur, Sveinn Rúnarsson said that the tourist had “no idea that she was missing”.
