MORE than half of Americans said that they trust Dr Anthony Fauci on coronavirus – while just 31 percent have faith in Donald Trump.
New data, collected by NBC, shows that 58 percent of Americans say they do not trust what the president has said about the pandemic.
However, 51 percent trust Dr Fauci's remarks and an even higher 55 percent have faith in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
While 29 percent do not trust the top coronavirus doc, 32 percent said the same of the CDC.
The majority of Republicans have backed Trump's statements and in the same regard do not trust what Fauci or the CDC has said.
Only 32 percent believe Fauci and 38 percent the CDC, with 53 percent not trusting the doctor and 52 percent the health organization.
A huge 69 percent of Republicans have said they trust the party leader's comments, and only 29 do not.
However Democrats have a lot of faith in the disease experts, but not in Trump – with 78 percent trusting Fauci, 76 percent trusting the CDC.
Only nine percent do not trust Fauci and 16 percent likewise of the CDC.
A minuscule two percent of Democrats said that they trust Trump's handling of the coronavirus.
Trump lashed out at Fauci on Saturday over why the US has had so many coronavirus cases in comparison to Europe, saying the expert is "wrong."
"We have more cases because we have tested far more than any other country, 60,000,000," Trump tweeted in retaliation to Fauci's testimony to Congress the day prior.
On Friday, Fauci, CDC boss Robert Redfield and HHS Testing Czar Admiral Brett Giroir testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis in Washington DC.
Fauci was asked why cases were declining in European countries while the United States has seen a surge.
“If you look at what happened in Europe when they shut down or locked down or went to shelter-in-place, however you want to describe it, they really did it to the tune of about 95-plus-per cent of the country did that,” Fauci explained.
"When you actually look at what we did, even though we shut down, even though it created a great deal of difficulty, we really functionally shut down only about 50 percent, in the sense of the totality of the country," he continued.

On Saturday, after coming back from a golfing session, Trump disputed Fauci's expert opinion.
"If we tested less, there would be less cases," he claimed,
"How did Italy, France & Spain do? Now Europe sadly has flare ups. Most of our governors worked hard & smart. We will come back STRONG!"
