The Royal Family were not approached for comment by Netflix regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's documentary, according to sources close to Buckingham Palace.

That is despite the series claiming that members of the Royal Family "declined to comment".

It is understood that the streaming giant did not reach out to Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace or any member of the Royal Family regarding the content of the docuseries, titled Harry & Meghan, prior to its release, according to PA.

The first three episodes of the series landed today (Thursday, December 8), with three more expected to come on December 15.

The series began with a written statement on a black background saying it is a "first hand account of Harry & Meghan’s story told with never before seen personal archive".

It said all "members of the Royal Family declined to comment on the content within this series" – yet Buckingham Palace says they were not approached for comment.

Royal aides are expected to be tasked with watching the episodes in their entirety before considering if and how to respond.

The King and the rest of the family will be continuing with royal duties as per usual. He, Prince William, Queen Consort Camilla and Kate Middleton are not expected to watch it.

Today's premiere comes exactly three months after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The series is part of the lucrative deal Harry and Meghan signed with Netflix after quitting the Royal Family in 2020.

The deals they signed with both Netflix and Spotify are thought to be worth over £100million.

Harry says in the opening scenes: "This isn’t just about our story. This has always been so much bigger than us.

"No one knows the full truth. We know the full truth. The institution knows the full truth. And the media know the full truth because they’ve been in on it.

"And I think anybody else in my situation would have done exactly the same thing."
