Overzealous parking wardens have been slapping drivers with £100 charges for leaving cars over-hanging the white lines by just inches at a retail park.

Julian Griffiths, 59, parked his Renault Clio at Parc Tawe Retail Park in Swansea for 10 minutes to buy knee-supports for his son at SportsDirect.

The civil servant received a £100 fine from Eternity Fire and Security Ltd two weeks later saying he had breached parking rules by 7cm.

‘I thought, “Bloody hell — they’re having a laugh”. Never realised it had to be perfectly square and perfectly within the confines of the bay,’ Mr Griffiths told The Sun.

Father-of-two Craig Court, from North Hill, was slapped with a £100 fine for not parking within the bay markings at the car park

‘I would understand if it was halfway in one bay and half across another bay, but they are penalising me for wonky parking — it’s mad.’

He added: ‘It’s clearly another example of car parking companies abusing their position to generate income.’

It comes less than week after father-of-two Craig Court, from North Hill, was also slapped with a £100 fine for not parking within the bay markings at the same car park.

Mr Court parked at the notorious retail park on September 6 to enjoy the Ninja Warrior Adventure Park with his children but received a letter a week later.

The letter, alongside two photos, said his Ford Focus was ‘not parked correctly within the markings of a bay or space’.

He told WalesOnline: ‘I was considering appealing as my wheels are not fully out of the lines – some people have given some good advice.

‘At the end of the day, I was only taking my kids to Ninja Warrior – so using their facilities [the Parc Tawe carpark] – now [I] feel penalised for it.

‘I have paid as I don’t feel an appeal would help in any way, just drag the situation out further.

‘I have never been fined there before, I am usually quite strict in where I park and how I park. Turned out to be an expensive day!’

MailOnline has contacted Eternity Fire and Security Ltd for comment and to clarify their parking rules.
