Partner of ‘outstanding’ young dad fought to save him as children watched

The devoted partner of an “outstanding” young dad performed CPR for 20 minutes in front of their young children in a frantic attempt to save him.

Damien Jones, known as Dash, was pronounced dead on Tuesday by paramedics when they arrived at the family home in Wrexham.

The 30-year-old had gone to bed on Monday night as normal with his partner of eight years, Amelia Louise, and was “laughing and joking”.

But when she woke up the next morning she discovered Damien was still and “blue in the face” having passed away as she slept.

A devastated Amelia Louise tried desperately to revive her partner while the couple’s children David-Lloyd, 5 and Esme-Rose, 3, watched on.

A heartbroken Amelia Louise said: "I am heartbroken and I feel empty, my life will never be the same but I must remain strong for our babies.

"We went to bed as normal on Monday, laughing and joking no issues and when I woke up he was just lay there, so still, blue in the face and as I called out his name and started shaking him I knew there was an issue.

"After having doing CPR for more than 20-minutes, whilst our babies lay there watching I couldn't accept when the ambulance told me he had passed.

She said the pair had thought they would be together forever and that “He was my king and I was his queen”.

"After trying for years to build a family, having lost several babies this was all Damien wanted, a life where he could be happy in himself and the people surrounding him,” she went on.

A GoFundMe page has now been set up by family friend Samantha Davies to help out the family with costs for the funeral with any additional money going to charity.

On the page, Samantha describes Damien as “top lad, the light of the party and lit up everyone’s hearts with his laughter and character”.

Speaking on the fundraiser Amelia Louise said: “Damien was loved by so many people, and his heart had room for everyone, My friend Samantha started the fundraiser and I can't thank everyone enough for their donations and messages they've sent me over the past few days.

"David-Lloyd and Esme-Rose are all I have left of him and the fundraiser will ensure Damien gets the send of that he fully deserves."

The family are waiting on the post mortem to find out the cause of death.

Speaking to North Wales Live, they said they had gone to hospital on the Saturday as Damien was suffering from breathing issues but were sent home after being told it was believed to be muscle pain.
