A child has died after an accident involving a Peloton Tread+ treadmill.
No details are available on the age or location of the child but the company has issued a statement.
“There are no words to express the shock and sadness everyone at Peloton feels as a result of this terrible tragedy,” it said.
“Out of respect for the family and their privacy, we won’t be sharing any additional information.”
Safety warnings are standard for treadmills and Peloton’s boss, John Foley, messaged owners to check they were aware of them.
“While we are aware of only a small handful of incidents involving the Tread+ where children have been hurt, each one is devastating to all of us at Peloton,” Mr Foley said
“To prevent accidents, please take care to review and follow all the safety warnings and instructions that we provide,” he said.
Mr Foley said children and pets should be kept away from the firm’s equipment “at all times” and that all its products were designed with safety in mind.
Peloton’s upmarket, pricey exercise equipment has seen big gains in popularity in recent years, with its appeal growing as gyms shut during lockdown.
The Tread range features a large screen that lets people connect to virtual exercise classes around the world – the premium Tread+ costs at least $4,295 (£3,084).
