Peter Phillips stood back to let Prince Harry and Prince William be pictured together as they walked to St George’s Chapel for Prince Philip’s funeral, a royal expert believes.
The brothers reunited today (April 17) for the first time since the Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle’s bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview.
They were seen walking together towards their grandfather’s final resting place with cousin Peter in between.
But, as Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl noted, Peter appeared to allow the duo to walk slightly ahead at certain points in the procession.
Speaking on the BBC after the funeral, she said: “I noticed Peter Phillips, I know they were walking as a trio, but the way he just stood back.
“Whether that was something to do with hierarchy or just to enable that image of the two brothers I think will be incredibly touching for many people.”
Much has been talked about an alleged rift between the two royal brothers.
And royal fans did spot Harry sitting alone on the opposite side of the chapel to William throughout the service.
But they appeared unified when it ended, with cameras capturing them chatting along with Kate Middleton as they made their way back to Windsor Castle.
Katie said the funeral was “a moment when the brothers put their differences aside”.
She continued: “Clearly there are things that need to be sorted out but if there is one thing we have seen today, this is a family with real emotions and feeling sand rifts all being a part of it.
“It will have been an incredibly emotional homecoming for Prince Harry to be reunited with his family.”
Harry was without heavily-pregnant wife Meghan for the ceremony after she was advised by her doctor to remain at home in California, US.
