A police car hit and killed a 27-year-old footballer ‘while in a chase’ on Saturday night as his heartbroken brother pays tribute.
The man, named locally as Arthur Hoelscher-Ermert, tragically died after he was struck by the vehicle near the junction of Dorothy Avenue in Peacehaven, East Sussex at around 11:00pm on April 30.
Mr Hoelscher-Ermert sustained serious injuries and despite the best efforts of paramedics and first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene
An eyewitness told The Argus that the police cars appeared to be ‘in a chase’ at the time of the fatal collision.
The unnamed woman said: ‘It looked like unmarked police cars were in a chase. It looked like a second unmarked hit a pedestrian.’

The busy junction connects Peacehaven and Newhaven to Brighton.
As the incident involved a police vehicle, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who will carry out an independent investigation.

The victim’s heartbroken brother Karl Hoelscher-Ermert paid tribute to him on Facebook yesterday morning.
He wrote: ‘RIP my baby brother. Right, I don’t really have the words but need to get this out there.
‘I have the worst new to tell everyone.
‘Last night at roughly mid night by brother Arthur Hoelscher-Ermert was run over and killed by police on south coast road, Peacehaven!
‘Rest easy up there my boy look after mum make sure you give her a big squeeze from me.’

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the man died following a collision with the police vehicle on the A259 at Peacehaven just after 11.10pm.
He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The air ambulance was also called out.
Chief Superintendent Jo Banks said: ‘This is a tragic incident and we are fully supporting the IOPC investigation.
‘We want to thank drivers and residents for their patience while the A259 South Coast Road was closed.’
