Harry’s remarks raised eyebrows as the couple had themselves made clear their express wish to be ‘financially independent’ when announcing their decision to quit in January 2020.
As working royals, 95 per cent of their funding came from the Duchy of Cornwall – Charles’ private estate – while 5 per cent came from the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant.
Harry also received a sizable inheritance from his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.
In the interview he said: ‘I’ve got what my mum left me, and without that, we would not have been able to do this.
He added: ‘During COVID, the suggestion by a friend was, “What about streamers?”‘
The couple’s deals with Netflix and Spotify are believed to be worth as much as £80million.

Harry said that his father has stopped taking his calls, and also said Charles is ‘trapped’ within the monarchy as heir to the throne.
Harry and Meghan also claimed a member of the royal family had expressed ‘concerns’ about ‘how dark’ Archie skin would be.

A source told the Standard: ‘It goes against everything the Prince of Wales believes in. He believes diversity is the strength of our society.’
Buckingham Palace has still not commented on the allegations of racism and are reportedly petrified the Sussexes could disclose the identity.
