Prince Harry was given a “frosty” reception during his flying UK visit and the imminent birth of his new baby could be a “convenient excuse” to not return in the summer, a royal expert has suggested.
The Duke of Sussex reunited with Prince William and Prince Charles for his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral on April 17.
It was the first time he has been seen in public with the royals since his explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which he admitted he was having "space" from his brother and claimed that he had barely spoken to his father.
And Russell Myers, the Daily Mirror’s royal correspondent, said he did receive a “frosty” reception from certain sections of his family upon his return.
“Some quarters of the family did give him a frosty reception and perhaps that did shock him somewhat,” he said on talkRADIO.
Harry is due to return to the UK in July for the unveiling of a statue of his late mother Princess Diana – something that he organised with his brother.
But that could coincide with the birth of his new girl and, given the supposed tensions, Russell believes this might stop him coming over.
“I’m told that he could still be committed to coming and both camps are,” he continued.
“William and Kate will welcome him if he wants to come back.
“But, one might wonder if his wife has just had a baby then it is usually all hands on deck.
“I’m sure he could jump on a private jet and make a flying visit but will it be a convenient excuse that he doesn’t need to come over and face the family?”
Russell added that, once the royal mourning period over Philip’s death ends, the Royal Family “will start thinking about that [the Oprah Winfrey interview] a lot more carefully.
“But it might not be good news for Harry,” he added.
It comes after the royal commentator also claimed that Harry “snubbed” a one-to-one with his dad Charles while he was in the UK.
