Putin brings back several Covid restrictions as country overwhelmed by new cases

Russian President Vladimir Putin has demanded the return of several Covid restrictions, just weeks after opening temporary Coronavirus hospitals.

The Pirola strain appears to be taking over the country, and now Putin's officials have introduced a return to mask wearing for all doctors and other medical officials in Moscow. According to Kremlin-backed Russian news outlet Moskovskij Komsomolets, as well as the mask-wearing mandate, medical buildings will be forced to ventilate twice a day, with buildings being cleaned with disinfectant.

All employees of those buildings are also being forced to wear gloves at all times. The Russian website MK claims: “Before the start of the working day, all employees will have their temperature measured, and during the day the measurement can be taken again if the doctor feels unwell. In this case, they will be sent home.”

Official Russian Covid statistics are hard to come by, as Putin refuses to release them to the general public. However, according to the World Health Organisation, the country has suffered exactly 399,999 deaths, with 22,996,765 total cases. No official cases have been reported to the WHO in the last seven days, despite Russian media claiming the virus is running riot once again.

The WHO also claims that 186,692,479 vaccine doses have been given in Russia, although most of those are thought to be using Russia's own less-effective vaccine produced inside the country.
