Vladimir Putin's propaganda is working as effectively in Russia as Adolf Hitler's did in Nazi Germany, according to a member of anti-Kremlin punk group Pussy Riot.
Maria Alyokhina made the shocking new claim after fleeing the nation back in April over fears that her vocal opposition to the government could see her sent to jail.
The pop star had been under house arrest since early 2021 — but felt compelled to leave to Iceland during huge nation-wide crackdown on dissent following the outbreak of the Ukraine war this year.

Now, Maria says things have got even worse for her compatriots' freedom of speech since she was forced to leave, with many Russians now seemingly believing all of Putin's justifications for the costly conflict in the state-dominated media.
Worryingly she even warned that television news presenters were now discussing dropping a nuclear bomb on the UK, telling the Irish Times: “[Putin] promoted Adolf Hitler. He said that, of all the decisions in the West, the Anglo-Saxons are the most guilty people. The first nuclear bomb must be dropped on Great Britain
"This is what we have, in our so-called news. They are speaking about nuclear bombs almost every day.”
Some Russians did however continue to oppose the conflict, according to the punk rocker, who said her mum was an example of someone who understood the nation had a "new Hitler".
The comparisons to the twentieth-century dictator come only days after one expert claimed he was 'channelling' Joseph Stalin as he the war worsens huge food shortages around the world.
The Levin Professor of History at Yale claims "tens of millions of people in Africa and Asia will starve" if Ukraine remains unable to export its grain.
He likened the potential humanitarian disaster Holodomor – the man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that is believed to have killed millions.
It was caused by Stalin's desire to eradicate Ukraine’s small farms and replace them with state-run collectives.
