Queen Elizabeth II's 21st birthday speech has been remembered as she fulfilled her pledge to devote her whole life to the service of the nation.
The longest-serving British monarch passed away this afternoon (September 8) at Balmoral, Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement just hours after reports emerged of concerns over her health.
As the nation has entered mourning over the loss of the Queen, the speech she made on her 21st birthday is in the minds of people across the country.

In the speech she made on April 21, 1947, she promised her people that she would spend her life serving the country – a promise which she kept until her death.
The then Princess Elizabeth said: "I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and to the service of our great Imperial family, to which we all belong.
"But I shall not have the strength to carry out this resolution alone unless you join in it with me as I now invite you to do.
"I know that your support will be unfailingly given. God helped me to make good, my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it."
Queen Elizabeth II reigned over the United Kingdom since 1952 after her father King George VI passed away in February 1952.
