A team of ocean scientists are planning an expedition to the UK in September 2022 hoping to conclusively prove that great white sharks frequent British waters.
The state-of-the-art Ocearch expedition will see a team of marine biologists and shark experts patrol the sea around the UK hoping to catch glimpses of the enormous sharks.
Aboard an impressive vessel, it's expected the scientists will chum British waters for four and half weeks to try and lure any sharks in the area up to the surface.
It has long been considered a behavioural impossibility for great white sharks to be found in British seas due to the temperature of the waters and lack of food sources.
But speaking on webcam during an expedition progress update, founding chairman of Ocearch Chris Fischer said that they believed white sharks should be "in this area for their Summer and Fall feeding."
Ocearch are the world's foremost experts in sharks and conduct scientific experiments on the creatures without removing them from their habitats.
The group has tagged hundreds of sharks around the world and use GPS tracking to better understand their migratory and feeding habits.
In many of their expeditions, the group will bring a shark onto the deck of their ship to conduct further tests before returning it to the water.
Ocearch has not currently revealed the precise dates they will be in British waters but their arrival is sure to generate a lot of interest.
Reacting to the possibility the team would be coming to our shores, nature YouTuber Islander Outdoors told his subscribers that the news was exciting.
He said: "It's so exciting that we're gonna have a proper legitamate expedition come to British waters to look for these magnificent creatures.
"For four and a half weeks they'll be here, they just need to sort out a few permits.
"This expedition will certainly answer some questions that I have notably whether Great Whites cross the Atlantic ridge."
The Daily Star has approached Ocearch for more information on their British expedition.
