Spanish title of Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir is even darker than UK version

The Spanish title for Prince Harry's upcoming tell-all memoir is even darker than the UK version.

Yesterday (Thursday, October 27), it was announced that the Duke of Sussex's hotly anticipated book is titled "Spare" and will be released on January 10 next year.

The title is a nod to the term 'heir and a spare' describing the roles of the elder and younger children of a monarch.

The book's website promises it will be "raw" with "unflinching honesty" as Harry offers "insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief".

Royal experts have slammed the title as "pathetic" and "bitter", with one going as far to say it "should never" be published.

There have also been claims that Spare doesn't bode well for the Royal Family, who were reportedly not forewarned of the title ahead of yesterday's announcement.

However, the Spanish version of the book has an extended title which may cause King Charles even more concern.

"Spare: En La Sombra" translates to English as "Spare: In The Shadows", which is perhaps a reference to Harry's self-imposed exile from the Royal Family after he jetted off to America with Meghan Markle at the start of 2020.

Spare will be available in 15 additional languages including Spanish, Italian, German and Chinese.

Coincidentally, the book's release comes one day after Kate Middleton's birthday on January 9.

Publisher Penguin Random House's teaser for the book reads: "It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror.

"As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

"For Harry, this is that story at last."
