A man suspected in the deaths of an El Paso County couple is dead and the criminal investigation into the couple’s deaths is closed, according to the sheriff’s office. The same suspect was implicated in another homicide, and the suspect was fatally shot by a deputy in connection to the additional homicide.
The bodies of Larry Nelson, 72, and Pamela Nelson, 70, were found on April 14, 2018, when deputies responded to a welfare check in the 13500 block of Hobby Horse Lane, according to an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The sheriff’s office on Thursday identified William Bacorn, who was 18 at the time of his death in 2018, as a lone suspect in the Nelson murders.
Bacorn was shot and killed by an El Paso County deputy on July 22, 2018, in the 19200 block of Loop Road, the news release said. Earlier that day, deputies responded to a homicide in the 12300 block of Colo. 94 where Bacorn was a suspect in the death of 46-year-old Gustavo Del Sol Sanchez.
When deputies encountered Bacorn on Loop Road in connection to the Del Sol Sanchez homicide, the suspect shot a deputy, the release said. Bacorn was fatally shot by a SWAT team member at the scene.
While investigating the Del Sol Sanchez homicide, detectives received information that Bacorn had committed the Nelson homicides, the news release said.
“As part of the investigation, forensic testing was conducted on collected evidence from the crime scene by multiple labs to determine if Bacorn was involved and if anyone else was involved,” the release said. “The final round of testing was completed in December of 2022. The testing confirmed Bacorn’s involvement and no evidence was found linking any other person to the crime.”
The Nelsons homicide case is now closed, the sheriff’s office said, as is the Del Sol Sanchez homicide case.
