Terrifying moment passengers scream as jet shakes uncontrollably during severe turbulence throwing food and drink around the cabin on flight to Portugal

  • Shocking clips from the March 23 flight that left 10 people injured have emerged
  • The plane was covered in detritus as passengers were battered about the cabin
  • An influencer travelling on the plane released terrifying footage of the ordeal

Brutal turbulence caused carnage on a recent flight from Angola to Portugal, leaving 10 people injured as passengers were battered and loose items crashed around the cabin.

Shocking images taken in the aftermath of the turbulence show how meals, trays, and plastic cutlery littered the aisles on the flight from Luanda to Lisbon on March 23.

Food and drink stains can be seen all over the cabin, including on the cracked and perforated ceiling panels.

In the third piece of footage, a plastic tray can even be seen wedged in the gap above the overhead bins.

Media in Portugal reported that at least 10 people, including two crew members, were injured on the Hi Fly flight operated by TAAG Angola Airlines, eight of whom needed medical assistance.

The turbulence occurred as lunch was being served and left the cabin covered in detritus

TAAG said ‘adverse atmospheric conditions’ caused the turbulence, which reportedly struck as the plane was flying over the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Eight passengers required medical assistance, with a doctor on board assisting one of the injured.

TAAG said in a statement that an ambulance and medical team were sent to Lisbon Airport, where the flight landed at 8.37pm, seven hours and 18 minutes after take-off.

Brazilian influencer Diana Assis was travelling on board the flight from Luanda and shared a startling clip of the turbulence that wrecked passengers’ meals and left her wine splattered all over the cabin ceiling and floor.

The digital content creator was terrified on what she claimed was her first-ever international flight.

The video shows how Diana first treated the turbulence as a joke and chuckled as the plane began to vibrate, but her laughter was brought to a sudden halt when a severe jolt launched the wine out of her glass onto the ceiling as her fellow passengers screamed in terror.

Diana said that the turbulence struck two hours after takeoff just as lunch was being served.

She said of the ordeal: ‘It only lasted a few seconds but it was enough to leave some people injured and the crew provided first aid before landing.

One of those injured, according to the influencer, was a newborn baby who had flown out of its parent’s arms and hit the ceiling, prompting the captain to ask for a doctor to help the child.

Portuguese media reported that many of the passengers showed symptoms of anxiety upon examination.

Heavy rain in the Angolan capital caused a flight to Lisbon scheduled for later that day to be postponed due to the slippery runway.

The European Union banned TAAG aircraft from entering into European airspace in July 2007 because of safety concerns.

The ban was completely lifted in April 2019, following a number of partial relaxations over the years.

The TAAG airline declined to comment when contacted by local media.
