A woman died Monday in custody at Denver’s Downtown Detention Center, Denver Sheriff’s Department officials said.
Around 9:30 a.m., deputies found the woman unresponsive in a cell and called a medical emergency team, officials stated in a press release. “Lifesaving efforts were performed until paramedics arrived,” the statement said.
The paramedics pronounced the woman dead, and Denver police have opened an investigation.
The woman’s identity and cause of death weren’t released pending notification of her family by the coroner.
No other information was provided. Sheriff officials said they were limited in what they could reveal to ensure the investigation isn’t compromised.
