A baby girl suffocated to death after her mother died while breastfeeding her and rolled on top of her.
Mariana Ojeda, a mother of three, had been at home with her daughter and three-year-old son at the time of the tragic incident.
Her devastated husband Gabriel had been calling repeatedly to try and reach them and eventually had the phone answered by his son Ignacio, who said that Mariana was "still sleeping".
The incident took place in the city of Corrientes in a northern province of Argentina when the 30-year-old mum was at home with two of her young children.
Gabriel was at work at the time, and her other daughter had been visiting her grandmother’s house.
When Mariana failed to pick up her eldest daughter, family members began calling her but were unable to get an answer.
Gabriel repeatedly tried to call his wife until his three-year-old son eventually answered the phone.
The youngster told his father: "Mum is still sleeping."
According to the news site Telecinco, Gabriel knew something was wrong and immediately went home only to find his wife and two-month-old daughter dead in bed.
An autopsy into the pair’s death is underway. A preliminary investigation showed that neither victim had any signs of violence.
It is thought that Mariana, who suffered from severe hypertension, had gone into shock and died, suffocating the baby girl who she was breastfeeding at the time.
Hypertension which is also known as high blood pressure can be fatal in the long term as it can often lead to a stroke or heart attack.
The investigation continues.
