America Talks: Come #ListenFirst in a conversation with another American to bridge political divides

Would you like to help be a part of helping to bridge political divides in our polarized nation?

Then USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Network would like to invite you to take part in America Talks, a virtual event bringing thousands of Americans together across political differences.

Take this survey to begin a process where you will be matched with a fellow American with differing political views for a live one-on-one conversation via video. Our goal is to listen to each other, discover common interests and help address issues of toxic polarization. You must be 18 or over to participate.

The dialogues will be held during the weekend of June 12 and 13, 2021. The event kicks off the fourth annual National Week of Conversation, from June 14 to June 20.

America Talks and the National Week of Conversation align with Hidden Common Ground, an initiative spearheaded by Public Agenda and USA TODAY. Launched in the fall of 2019, Hidden Common Ground challenges the narrative of a divided America by identifying and amplifying areas where Americans agree on key issues facing the country.

The most recent Hidden Common Ground research showed that Americans want to see compromise – but believe political gridlock will get worse before it gets better. The survey suggests that political divisiveness is taking a personal toll on a rising number of Americans – and America Talks is one way that you can personally take action.
