Supplies of ‘floury spud’, which includes Kerr Pinks, Golden Wonders, and British Queens, are expected to be limited. Teagasc potato specialist Shay Phelan warned this will have a “big impact” on farmers. He added: “It’s a bit of a conundrum, to be honest; we’ve limited seed crops growing here and UK potato seed imports aren’t approved.” Mr Phelan said a relaxing of the rules for seed growers could help but “event that would take a year or two”.
