Shaun Bailey told Express.co.uk he is determined to give London a fresh start following Sadiq Khan’s “failures” as Mayor. The Conservative Party’s candidate added that even Labour voters in London are aware that the capital city needs a change of leadership.
Mr Bailey said: “I think there are two ways of looking at the failures Sadiq Khan has had in London.
“One is his overall theme of blaming everything on the Government and not taking responsibility for what goes on in London.
“If you break that down into the areas that he is in charge of, such as policing, housing, transport, environment, then the failure just piles up and up.
“That is why I am determined to give London a fresh start.
“Everybody in London, even people that have been voting Labour their whole lives cannot support him, we need a fresh start.”
The Tory candidate continued: “He talks about the Government making cuts but the first thing he did as Mayor was to take £38 million out of the police staffing budget.
“He then went on to threaten to take out an extra £110 million, policing is not on his mind.
“He told the public it would take 10 years to solve knife crime, he is not taking responsibility for making London safe.”

Mr Bailey added: “I would be a Mayor who would be a critical friend to the police, I will back the police to make the changes they feel necessary to make the streets of London safe.”

Sadiq Khan has been the Mayor of London since 2016.
The London Mayoral election was postponed by one year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a March Opinium poll for the Evening Standard, Mr Khan is on track to secure a second term as the Mayor of London.
The poll put the Mayor of London on 53 percent of first preference votes.
Shaun Bailey registered 28 percent of the first preference votes during the poll.
The London Mayoral election will be held on May 6, 2021.
