An archived clip has resurfaced and gone viral as it showed a young Rishi Sunak claiming that he has "no working class friends" but only friends from upper class and aristocrats.
The 42-year-old, who is one of nine candidates to join the race to replace Prime Minister Boris Johnson, was mocked for his appearance in a 2001 BBC documentary about middle classes.
Appearing in the series "Middle Classes: Their Rise & Sprawl", the then 21-year-old Sunak told the interviewer of his circle of friends.

He said: "I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper class, I have friends, who are, you know, working class, but …well, not working class.
"But I mix and match and I go to see kids from an inner city state school and tell them to apply to Oxford and talk to them about people like me.
"And then I shock them at the end of challenging them for half an hour and tell them I was at Winchester, and my best friend is from Eton or whatever, and then they're like, 'oh okay'."
The clip was widely shared on Twitter after the former Chancellor announced his campaign to race for the Tory leadership.

One viewer tagged his handle and said: "Hi @RishiSunak, have you got any working class friends yet? If not, try renting a few for your leadership campaign."
"It's the manner in which he makes that reply that is the real eyebrow raiser," a second wrote and a third added: "Saying the words 'working class' seems to have given him a nervous tick."
Mr Sunak posted on Friday a two minutes and 52 seconds long clip outlining his plans to contest the leadership as he discusses his family's arrival in Britain and his own upbringing during the clip.
