10 bombshell revelations from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview

Tonight, on March 8, millions of people are expected to tune in to ITV to watch Oprah Winfrey interview Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The tell-all chat was aired on CBS to US viewers yesterday, and many shocking claims came to light.

In the interview they talked about their decision of leaving the Royal Family last year, their time at Kensington Palace and the family rift that made countless headlines.

Here are the 10 most shocking revelations made during the CBS prime-time special “Oprah with Meghan and Harry”.

1. Harry and Meghan secretly married three days before the televised wedding


Three days before their Royal Wedding on May 19 2018, Harry and Meghan secretly tied the knot in their back garden.

Meghan told Oprah: “Three days before our wedding we got married. The vows were framed. We called the Archbishop, and we just said, 'Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world, but we want our union between us’.”

The couple told Oprah how the ceremony was just the two of them, and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

2. Meghan claimed Kate Middleton made her cry before Royal Wedding

The Duchess of Sussex addressed news stories which said she had made Kate Middleton cry.

But Meghan denied the claims in from of the chat show host, saying it it was actually the “reverse that happened”.

She claimed that a few days before her and Harry’s wedding, Meghan had cried due to an issue with Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress.

Meghan explained how it had hurt her feelings and “made me cry”, but that Kate had later apologised.

3. Meghan said there were “concerns and conversations” about how dark Archie’s skin would be before he was born

One of the most shocking allegations in the interview was thatMeghan claimed there had been conversations about the potential skin colour of her unborn child.

Archie was born in May 2019, but months before Meghan said there had been “concerns” about “how dark his skin might be”.

Meghan then said more specifically that concerns had been expressed to Harry about “what that would mean or look like”.

4. Meghan had suicidal thoughts after joining Royal Family

Meghan was open and honest about her hidden struggles as part of the Royal Family.

The TV actress said the media scrutiny had affected her mental health.

She admitted to Oprah that she had told Harry she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore”.

Meghan also claimed that she had spoken with a senior member of the Royal institution about wanting to seek help.

But according to her she was told not to because it would reflect badly on the Royal Family.

5. Meghan felt “lonely” and “isolated”

The Duchess, like the late Princess Diana, opened up about how lonely she felt in the Royal household.

She explained how life as a Royal was isolating, and she had very little freedom.

6. Harry and Meghan are having a baby girl

On a lighter note, Harry and Meghan took the opportunity to share some happy news.

The couple revealed they are expecting a baby girl, meaning Archie will have a little sister.

Meghan said that the baby is due in the summer.

7. Harry claimed Charles stopped taking his calls after they announced they were stepping back

The Duke of Sussex revealed that his father, the Prince of Wales, stopped taking his calls.

Harry explained that he had three conversations with his grandmother and two with his father “before he stopped taking my calls”.

The prince believed his father stopped communicating with him because he “took matters into my own hands”.

8. Harry said the Royal Family cut him off financially in first half of 2020

According to Harry, the Royal family cut him and Meghan off financially after they stepped back from their Royal duties.

Since the first half of 2020 he been living off his inheritance from his mother.

Without the money Princess Diana left him, he said he would “not have been able to do this”.

9. Meghan said she had been “silenced” rather than “silent” since dating Harry

Oprah asked Meghan whether she was “silent or silenced” during her time as a working Royal.

Meghan responded: “The latter”, saying that she’s “always valued independence” and that being quiet about her life was difficult.

After Harry and Meghan’s relationship became pubic knowledge, she was given very clear instructions to always say “no comment”.

She claimed her own family members and friends were told to do the same.

10. Harry said he was “trapped”, and that Meghan helped free him

Harry said in the interview that Meghan made him realised he was “trapped” int he Royal Family.

He explained that he probably wouldn’t have stepped down from duties without Meghan, because he “didn’t see a way out”.

Harry went on to explain that Prince William and Charles are also trapped “within the system.”
