Taste of Colorado is back this Labor Day Weekend after last year’s hiatus.
The 40-plus year running event has been reimagined in 2021, boasting a city-wide celebration of local culture, food, music and art. It’s also been relocated. Taste of Colorado will be centered around the 16th Street Mall this year instead of Civic Center Park, where it had been.
The move to the mall should make transportation easier. It also means there will not be the usual street closures along Broadway at Colfax Avenue, or on Bannock Street.
RTD’s Mall service won’t run this weekend as all vehicle traffic will shut down on the pedestrian mall. RTD will instead operate buses along 15th and 17th Streets between Union Station and Civic Center Station.
The best way to beat the traffic will probably include utilizing Union Station and RTD’s modified services down15th and 17th Streets. For those driving in, there are plenty of paid lots in the vicinity of the event which centers on 16th Street between Market Street and Broadway.
“Taste of Colorado is to bring the community together, to celebrate the things we love about our city and state,” Britt Diehl from the Downtown Denver Partnership said. “We want to help remind people what they love about the 16th Street Mall and downtown.”
The festival aims to showcase the things that make Colorado unique, and this year all of the music will be performed by local artists. Music is not the only free way to partake this weekend; a kids zone with trampolines, inflatables, and more won’t pinch your wallet.
Skyline Park will host stages for bands and transform into a bar, highlighting dozens of local craft distilleries and hundreds of varieties of spirits.
The event has brought as many as a half of a million people downtown in the past.
Taste of Colorado begins Saturday and runs through Monday.
