A man at the centre of a viral video of a couple engaging in a public sex act in Liverpool city centre has finally appeared in court.

Joe Firby, 23, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court today (December 7) to plead guilty to committing an act of outraging public decency after being filmed engaged in a sex act.

Mum-of-four Kelly Cousins had previously been slapped with a suspended prison sentence and community service after pleading guilty to being 'on her knees' on the night of August 1.

The 35-year-old alleged OnlyFans star landed herself in hot water when she proudly shared a video of the sex act with Joe Firby, 23, in front of dozens of night clubbers and revellers in Liverpool's Concert Square.

In one explicit video, the court was told, Cousins can be seen crouched on her knees and "engaged in sexual activity" on a man with people laughing as they watched on.

The incident occurred in August, yards from the entrance of Concert Square's Einstein Bier Haus, a packed beer tent.

At the time, Liverpool mayor Joanne Anderson slammed the behaviour as "damaging and criminal"

Firby, 23, and Cousins met each other in the gym before going out for a heavy boozy session, which resulted in them getting overly intimate to the shock of onlookers and thousands of social media users.

Merseyside police were alerted to the incident and led to both parties being charged.

Firby from Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, had been dodging appearing at Liverpool Magistrates Court due to being unable to afford the travel, having lost his job.

On Wednesday, however, Firby finally made the trip and pled guilty to committing an act of outraging public decency. He is due to be sentenced in the new year.

Cousins, who also pled guilty to the offence, was recently given a 10 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 40 hours of unpaid work and 25 Rehabilitation Activity days with the Probation Service.

Speaking after her sentencing, Cousins revealed how the incident unfolded and expressed remorse: "We knew each other from the gym.

“We went on a date. Things got out of hand, this was never planned.

“I deeply regret it – I have always taken responsibility for my actions and I now just want to make a new start and put this all behind me.”

During the court case, her solicitor Heather Toohey talked about the “misogyny” involved in the press and reaction to the case.

She said: “As we have heard, there was no statement made by any member of the public, nobody made a complaint about this.

"It was the circulation of the video that alerted the police., and of course there was no victim impact statement. In fact, it can be seen that people are filming this willingly; laughing, jeering it on."
