The Boulder Valley School District is canceling classes on Friday because of staffing shortages.
“As we approach next week, it became evident that we will not have enough substitutes and central office staff to cover the number of absences expected next Friday,” said Rob Anderson, superintendent BVSD, in a statement to families and staff. “We have made the difficult decision to cancel classes on Friday, November 12. It will be used as a much-needed workday for BVSD staff, who, again, have been stretched to the breaking point this semester.”
The district will have no school on Thursday in observance of Veterans Day. Friday was earmarked as a “floating day” on the BVSD academic calendar and combined with continuing staff shortages forced the decision to close for the day, the statement said.
BVSD’s child care team is working to provide “free bell-to-bell child care at 13 regional sites in hopes of meeting the needs of our working families” on Nov. 12, the statement said. There’s mandatory online enrollment, with a 10 a.m. Tuesday deadline, and priority will be given to children who regularly utilize the child care program.
Anderson told the BVSD community that Adams 12 Five Star Schools has also announced a district closure on Friday.
