One of the UK's biggest pub chains has been forced to drop plans to sell pints for 6p today to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Greene King pubs was selling pints at 1952 prices, but it will now be giving them away for free instead.
The Mirror reports how, according to UK licensing laws, the pub chain can not sell the pints so cheap, but giving them away for free is allowed.
The offer was supposed to be at all 408 of its UK branches.
A spokesman for the pub chain told the Daily Star: “One of the ideas we had was for a promotion in 400 of our managed pubs where customers could buy one pint each of Greene King IPA for 6p today – the same price it was in 1952.
"We thought this was a great way to celebrate this remarkable occasion and we’ve been thrilled at the response from customers.
"However, we have some good news for everyone, which is that we will now be giving the Jubilee first pint of Greene King IPA away free of charge today, as we now understand it’s not permissible under the licensing act to charge the 6p.
"Just remember to use the keyword ‘1952’ and check whether your local pub is running the offer plus further details at greeneking-pubs.co.uk/my-local.
“Cheers everyone.”
However, several users on social media were claiming that their local Greene King pubs were not participating in the offer.
One user tweeted the chain: “Just visited one of your pubs to get my 6p pint and told they were not participating, which pubs are in this promo please?!”
And another said: “Would love to know as well! Just failed at two @greeneking pubs in London.”
A third wrote, having filmed himself in a pub being turned down: “Just tried getting a 6p pint using the secret code 1952 but was not available from a @greeneking pub like advertised.”
