Weather forecasters have said that "four heatwaves" could blast the UK this year, with temperatures predicted to hit 30C in a matter of days.

All forecasters agree that temperatures are set to rise this week, with things looking set to remain warm as we head into June.

According to Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden: "The prolonged run of developing warm to hot weather that could bring temperatures of 30C during the peak in early June is set to persist through this and next week, and potentially for a number of days during the week starting June 5."

Monday (May 22) saw the hottest temperature recorded in the UK so far this year with Cardiff Bute Park clocking in at 23.4C.

The Met Office has said temperatures could exceed that later on this week.

Madden said that the second half of June will likely see temperatures cool down following this hot spell as "the jet-stream could take a more southerly route at times".

This would lead to "much cooler, unsettled, and rather unseasonal weather for the time of the year".

Luckily things ought to warm up again. Madden said: "The next major heatwave after this and another significant rise in temperatures is more likely to occur for in and around mid-July."

He predicted that a total of four heatwaves could blast the UK this year, coming "in and around early June, mid-July, and the second half of August" as well as in September.

Madden described the September outlook as "very warm to hot".

He wrote: "It will not be entirely this way throughout [summer] and warm weather lovers should make the best of current conditions over the next few weeks, as more changeable weather is also going to play it's part throughout this summer as in our original projections… in addition to the two to four major heatwaves that are still on the cards."
