The Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus is temporarily shutting down after some visitors who oppose the facility’s mask policy directed their anger at museum staff.
The museum, at 2121 Children’s Museum Drive, will close its doors to the public from Wednesday through Feb. 4, according to a news release.
“The Museum carefully follows public health guidelines, including mask wearing,” the release said. “We know the stress of the last two years has taken a toll on everyone in our community, but regrettably, some guests who object to the Museum’s mask policy have been inappropriately directing their anger toward our staff.”
For almost 50 years the museum “has been a community gathering place where families can share moments of wonder and joy,” the release said. “Our staff takes this mission seriously, and strives to help your family create memories in a safe and welcoming environment.”
Lately, museum staff has been taking heat from members of the public over the mask policy.
The temporary closure, announced Tuesday, is a way for the museum to “support our staff and bolster our policies with the hope of preventing this type of behavior in the future.”
The museum said it appreciates and values guests who respect the mask policy and who cooperate with staff.
“We are sorry that the unacceptable behavior of others means you cannot enjoy the Museum at this time,” the release said. All reservations for the closure period have been canceled.
