Denver weather: Expect snow during the Wednesday evening commute

Snow is coming to Denver on Wednesday, and it will hit the city just in time for the evening commute.

Driving home this afternoon or evening, especially on the west side of the metro area, could be challenging.

Denver will reach a high of 30 degrees on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. There will be less than a half-inch of snow before sunset, but it will continue to fall early into Thursday morning as the temperature drops to 14 degrees.

The snow total could reach three inches downtown. The NWS says the snow totals are still highly uncertain. Heavier amounts under stronger snow showers make up to seven inches possible in the foothills.

Thursday will barely make it above freezing at 34 degrees with sun in the afternoon. The temperature will drop to 11 degrees in the evening.

Friday will be mostly sunny as the temperature finally reaches the seasonal average high of 46 degrees after more than a week of bitter cold. The low will drop to 22 degrees but set up a warming trend for the weekend.
