The dog of a murdered Mexican journalist has been photographed waiting outside her home.
Lourdes Maldonado, 68, a journalist with decades of experience, was shot dead in her car in the city of Tijuana on Sunday.
Despite her tragic death, her loyal pooch Chato has been pictured outside her home in the Santa Fe neighbourhood, sitting on the doorstep and awaiting her return.
A photo of the pup was posted on Twitter by fellow Mexican journalist, Yolanda Morales, along with the caption: “The dog of murdered journalist, Lourdes Maldonado."
The journalist had told Mexican president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, three years ago that she feared for her life.
This is the second journalist killed in the same area in the space of a week and third since the start of the year – underscoring the country’s status as one of the deadliest for journalists outside of a war zone.
Following the latest murder, the president pledged a full investigation.
"What happened is very regrettable," he said, adding that investigators still had to determine a motive and evaluate any possible links to a labour dispute Maldonado was involved in.

A source with knowledge of the case said Maldonado had been registered in the state's protection programme for journalists, which included some police surveillance of her home.
Police have yet to announce any suspects regarding her murder or make any arrests.
From 2000 to 2021, Article 19, a human rights group fighting to protect freedom of expression, has registered 145 killings of journalists in Mexico, with seven deaths last year.
Only a fraction of the crimes have resulted in convictions.
