Middle-class drug users could have their passports and driving licences taken away under plans being unveiled this summer.

Policing minister Kit Malthouse said plans in a White Paper to be published within weeks include ordering users to wear a tag that detects drugs in sweat.

Football fans who take drugs to matches will be banned from all grounds.

Mr Malthouse declared war on drug users, who he said were responsible for teenagers being murdered in UK gang wars.

He stressed the need for action that will ‘infringe’ on middle-class offenders’ lifestyles, citing the example of confiscating passports.

A scheme to make offenders whose crimes are linked to alcohol wear a tag that alerts the authorities if they have a drink has been hailed a success, with a 97 per cent compliance rate.

The next step, Mr Malthouse added, was to apply the same strategy to illegal drugs.
